The city has everything from 6 course gourmet dinners to modest street food stands that deserve Michelin star ratings. This is also a place known for its Mezcal. TIERRA DEL SOL
By far our favorite restaurant in Oaxaca. Not only is the restaurant on a terrace next to Santo Domingo, but the service and food are exceptional. We had a transcendent experience with a Chile Relleno Oaxaqueño. Tierra del Sol also has an atoleria and a panaderia.
LA OLLA
While all the traditional tlayudas we had in Oaxaca were amazing (we had a lot), the tlayudas at La Olla were our favorite. It's a small cute restaurant that also has delicious aguas frescas.

CAFE MUSS
This café is next to the Textile museum. It has great breakfast plates and one of the most beautiful courtyards in the city.
KUN CAFE
A shop that serves specialty coffee and also doubles as a gallery and art collective. Needless to say, we felt at home here. The owner is an awesome guy who sat and talked with us for hours. Rosa loved the rustic furniture.
LA ATOLERIA
La Atoleria, part of Tierra del Sol, serves many different flavors of traditional atole. Their chocolate is delicious and because the panaderia is right next door, you always get fresh bread. It is perfection. We found ourselves here every afternoon for a little treat.
CAFEBRE OR BRÚJULA
The first cafecito we had together in Oaxaca was inside a beautiful courtyard next to a small library. Beautiful place to begin your stay.
GRILLO CAFÉ
This is a cafe on the northern part of the centro, but worth the walk there. Good coffee and artsy vive.
PUNTO PAZ CAFÉ
Right above Santo Domingo, Punto Paz is a small cute coffee shop that also serves breakfast. Their waffles and chilaquiles were delicious.

TIERRA DEL SOL
Tierra del Sol is also our top stop for breakfast or brunch. The traditional Mixtec breakfast is sublime and you get complimentary cafe de olla or chocolate and fruit with your order. The morning light atop the roof terrace is magic!
BOULENC
If you are in the mood for a decadent breakfast with great coffee, nothing beats Boulenc. Their pancakes and avocado toast are exceptional. They bake their own bread and also have a traditional pizza oven for dinner later in the evening. The place is rustic and beautiful!
CHEPICHE CAFE
This garden café is worth the walk to Barrio Xochimilco. The presentation and the flavors are on point. Try the jugo verde!
CAFÉ LOS CUILES
A modest restaurant café that has delicious traditional plates and serves specialty coffee. All the plates here are exceptional! Rosa's recommendation: have a cortado by the tall window facing the street!

A chill night life spot with excellent mezcal based cocktails. Start with a Jamaicon and go from there.

This is a hidden terrace that faces Santo Domingo. Excellent drinks and food.

A bustling market where you can get fresh squeezed juices, hot chocolate and pan, mole, guisados, tlayudas for any traditional food craving.
PUESTOS EN CALLE MANUEL GARCIA VIGIL
As part of the Guelaguetza celebration in July the entire street along Garcia Vigil is filled with pop-up stands. They all serve practically the same thing: Tlayudas, Tacos Dorados, Quesadillas, and Molotes. They are all constantly packed with people because this is the food that feeds the soul. It's like a home made meal at any hour of the day and it is so delicious.

PUESTOS EN PLAZA DE LA DANZA
Right in front of La Basilica de Nuestra Señora de La Soledad, there is a plaza with 5-6 sit-down ice cream shops. This is traditional Oaxacan churned ice cream in the most unique flavors. Our favorite was a combination of Nuez (pecans) & Tuna, (Prickly Pear).
LA OAXAQUEÑA EN EL PAÑUELITO
Another great spot for ice cream is right next to Santo Domingo. You can get a cup of a small selection of flavors and sit in the steps of the church and watch the city flow by.
